A flesh tunnel, also known as a spacer is a piece of jewelry used in some forms of body modification. It can also be known as  spools, fleshies, earlets expansions, or eyelets. They are generally used to show that the stretching process has been taken.

A Flesh tunnel is usually a hollow pieces jewelry with a hole in the center, usually drilled in straight or with a scalpel. Flesh tunnels vary in size, but the lower the gauge number, the smaller the hole seen through the tunnel. Some people decide to use flesh tunnels in their stretched ears instead of using body modification plugs mainly because they are much lighter.

The jewelry can be constructed from various different materials, but the most popular are surgical steel or titanium, although both silicone and acrylic are gaining popularity. There are also a wide range of natural fibers including bones and amber which can be used to create the jewelry. They can contain a range of inlaid semi-precious gems. Grooves are often placed close to  the edges to allow the  addition of silicone rings to secure the jewelry.  Flesh tunnels are most commonly seen in the ears, but there are also other areas of the body which can be pierced and equipped with them. If this is the case, the overall length will be different as it needs to be longer.  Some examples include the septum and also the nipples.

The real origin of the tunnels of meat, pierced ears, and the plates of the body is from many different tribes around the world. This includes, but is not limited to,s the peoples of Myanmar and of Africa, as well as some other indigenous groups.

Different sizes, materials and colors distinguish the various tribes. Flesh tunnel represent different  levels of status and roles  within their societies, for different groups, however, during the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt, men and women used a variety of jewelery, including body plugs/ flesh tunnels, as we do in this present time, and more often were a fashion statement.

The youths of this century which have unusual practices probably do not realize that this lifestyle originates from different social groups. The fashion of the plug or tunnel is increasingly seen in different publications, on both ladies and gentlemen’s body as an expression of originality.
